19 Best Granny Night Dresses For Breezy Summer Dressing
Of course, boho brands like Sézane and Dôen instantly provided, with the rest of the high street quickly following suit. Best of all, though, is how they’ve taken a leaf out of Prada’s book, and branched out from bright white — now, the virtual aisles are littered with short-sleeve pastel minis and gingham summer dresses that better hide our knickers.
I’ll say it again: the granny dress is much more than a passing trend. It reflects a broader cultural shift that is also influencing the way we dress. Yep, we’re nonnamaxxing — otherwise known as looking backwards, calling on the trends once popular amongst The Silent Generation (which, FYI, my 92-year-old nan is proud to belong to).
Sadly, my mum’s mum is keeping a firm grip on her granny nighties, hence my need to track down the very best to shop this summer. But what causes a dress to fall in the granny nightgown category? Look out for loose, ethereal silhouettes, and slip dresses crafted from pure cotton, broderie anglaise, gauze or ultra-light poplin. I’m also in favour of chemise styles embellished with lace inserts, Richelieu embroidery, crochet details and pintuck gatherings.
In terms of how to style a granny night dress, skip the dressing gown. Otherwise, anything goes. As previously mentioned, I’m a fan of comfort, so I tend to wear flip-flops or jelly sandals when commuting to the office in a 100% cotton nightdress. And if I’m taking my night shirt out for the evening, I might upgrade to jelly kitten heels — or a pair of backless mules if my next pedicure is due.

Or, for those craving modest summer dresses or summer dresses with sleeves, and oh-so comfortable granny sandals to pair with them, we’ve got you covered in these departments, too.
