Why Did Margaret Qualley & Jack Antonoff Break Up?

Several celebrity couples have parted ways in 2026, but perhaps the most shocking split is between Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff.

On Wednesday, July 8, People reported that Qualley, 31, and Antonoff, 42, have separated after nearly three years of marriage. An insider confirmed the breakup, describing their relationship as “rocky.” A second source told the outlet that the Substance actress and music producer are actively “figuring things out.”

Qualley and Antonoff first sparked dating rumors in August 2021 after they were photographed kissing in New York City. They quietly got engaged the following year, and in August 2023, they married on Long Beach Island in New Jersey.

News of their separation comes amid recent speculation, especially after eagle-eyed fans noticed that Qualley deleted her and Antonoff’s wedding photos from her Instagram page. She also recently changed her handle from @isimostar (a reference to Antonoff’s band Bleachers’ song “Isimo”) to @sarahmargaretqualley23.

The news also comes less than a week after Antonoff attended longtime friend and collaborator Taylor Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce without Qualley, who’s currently busy filming a movie with Outer Banks star Drew Starkey. Antonoff brought his sister Rachel as his plus-one instead.

At the event, Antonoff risked a run-in with ex-girlfriend Lena Dunham, who was also present at Swift’s rehearsal dinner and ceremony. Antonoff and Dunham dated from 2012 to 2017; Dunham is now married to musician Luis Felber.

According to The Daily Mail, Dunham stirred major controversy at Swift and Kelce’s July 2 rehearsal dinner with a provocative speech, taking a jab at the groom and joking that “American football is just straight guys reenacting gay porn.” Kelce, of course, is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Many fellow NFL players and professional athletes—including his brother Jason Kelce and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid—were also in attendance.

While there were “lots of speeches” that night, Dunham’s comments quickly became the main topic of conversation. One source noted that her joke drew a “divided” response, with guests reacting with a mix of “gasps and laughs.” However, Swift was reportedly supportive of Dunham, with the insider claiming the Grammy-winning singer called Dunham a “genius” after her speech.
