What Did Nick Reiner’s Indictment Say About His Parents?

Nick Reiner, the youngest son of the late filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Reiner, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths in December 2025. 

A Los Angeles grand jury returned an indictment against Nick on July 20, and it was officially unsealed on Wednesday, August 12.

“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. “The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait.”

Hochman continued, “We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”

Nick pleaded not guilty after the indictment was unsealed, per Hochman, and he’s expected to return to court for a pretrial hearing on September 15. If convicted, Nick “faces death or life in state prison without the possibility of parole. A decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date.”

Since Nick’s parents were found stabbed to death in their home on Dec. 14, 2025, he’s been behind bars at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown L.A. In July 2026, sources told the Daily Mail that Nick is “unrecognizable” these days.

“Nick no longer looks like Nick,” a source close to the Reiners revealed. “He is rapidly deteriorating. No one would recognize him. He is almost bald because they have to keep his hair super short to keep the bugs out, and he is super skinny because of the intense medication he is on. His eyes are very sunken in.”

They added that Nick hasn’t “been well for many years,” but before he went to prison, “some of his personality could be recognized.” However, now he’s reportedly “like a babbling child, totally out of it” and “his lawyers have a hard time talking to him.”

The lack of human interaction is also apparently getting to Nick. “Because of his mental health condition, Nick cannot mix with other inmates, which means he is alone all the time with his own dark thoughts. It is extremely unhealthy,” the insider claimed.

“He is not all there,” they noted. “He doesn’t know what year it is or who is the president of the United States. He cannot process reality or focus.”

Nick’s siblings Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, allegedly “worry that he will never be sane again and that he could possibly die as his heart could weaken from the constant strain.”
