President Donald Trump’s Response to Taylor Swift Wedding

If we know something about US President Donald Trump is that he wants to be the center of attention. And during the 4th of July weekend, as the United States celebrated its 250th anniversary, the focus was not exactly on Trump or the celebrations taking place around the anniversary. Instead, it was on New York and with Taylor Swift.

Swift, who supported Kamala Harris during the past election, is infinitely more popular than Trump. And people are always excited about weddings, especially big ones. And the combination left people ignoring what Trump wanted them to look at. And the President was reportedly not happy.

“The president expected the headlines to be about America’s birthday and his celebration,” a White House source told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice. “Instead, it’s Taylor, Taylor, Taylor.”

While events to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US were held in Washington, New York was all about the wedding and the celebrities invited. And the White House made the comparison worse by posting an “America’s Eras Tour” graphic, which was modeled after Swift’s concert artwork. The internet, predictably, didn’t react well.

“They know they can’t outshine Taylor,” another insider told Naughty But Nice. “Every time they react, they make her an even bigger story.”

And Trump is reportedly so angry that the attention wasn’t on him, he’s questioning whether the city handled the permits for the wedding appropriately. “He’s asking why Taylor gets special treatment,” one political insider said. “He believes the city rolled out the red carpet for her.”

The President is reportedly looking for ways to make the news cycle about himself. He seems to have managed that with his call to FIFA President Infantino, asking him to rethink Folarin Balogun’s red card. But Shuter reports he’s even considering pardoning Sean “Diddy” Combs.

“Trump always wants to own the news cycle,” another source said, “This weekend, Taylor owns it—and that drives him crazy.”

“Every complaint coming from the White House just gives the wedding another headline,” added a political operative. “They’re making her event even bigger.”

Trump has had things to say about Swift during the course of his presidency. Last year, on Truth Social, he asked his followers, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” He also posted “I hate Taylor Swift,” days after she endorsed Kamala Harris for President in October 2024.

Back then, a source told the Daily Mail that Swift’s new husband, Kelce, was “seething” after seeing the President’s social media post. “Travis is livid that the President of the United States is talking negatively about Taylor,” they said. “He is so mad that he is going to use it as motivation during training for the season ahead, especially if Trump continues talking.”

They added, “Since Travis can’t say anything publicly because that would just open another can of worms, he has to figure out ways to get it out of his system because he would love to protect Taylor and stick up for her. But keeping quiet is the move he has to do right now.”

Of course, that’s not a move Trump is familiar with. That’s the problem.
