Meghan Markle Sickens Royal Fans With Princess Diana Nod
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently stepped out for a date night, attending the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary celebration in Canada on Friday, August 7. At the event—which marked the couple’s first joint appearance since their July 2026 trip to the UK—Meghan donned a one-shoulder black gown and a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Some appreciate Meghan’s effort to honor Diana, with one source telling RadarOnline that the former Suits star’s fans see it as “a family connection and a tribute.” However those who aren’t as supportive “believe the Diana associations have become too frequent and say they are tired of seeing those parallels repeatedly drawn.”
“Meghan’s critics are sick of what they see as her constantly trying to channel Diana,” a second insider continued. “Every time she wears something associated with Diana, they argue that it creates another comparison. The earrings immediately became a talking point because their history is so recognizable. But she needs to realize she is nowhere near as iconic as Diana and has nothing to do with her.”
Meghan’s latest controversy with Diana comes amid accusations that she pulled a “vulgar” publicity stunt during her UK visit. Shortly after returning to California, the Duchess of Sussex allegedly posted a photo of Harry and their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, carrying flowers to Diana’s grave.
She faced immediate backlash from royal fans and her brother-in-law, Prince William. A source previously told RadarOnline that William was livid, saying, “The fact they shared a photo of the children on the grounds of Diana’s family home has enraged William, and he says it’s so obvious it was done to get headlines and that sickens him.”
The insider noted that while William “doesn’t have any objection to Archie and Lilibet paying their respects to their late grandmother,” he’s deeply upset by Meghan’s decision to share it with her 4.7 million Instagram followers. “In his view, to turn it into a publicity grab is just vulgar and beyond disrespectful, and he’s incredibly sad that they would stoop this low.”

King Charles, who reportedly often stands up for Meghan, was also said to be “genuinely shocked” by her post. “This has upset people who normally defend Meghan,” one royal insider explained to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice. “The backlash isn’t just coming from her critics anymore.”
Another said, “Even people who usually refuse to comment on Harry and Meghan are wincing. The feeling is that some family moments are simply too sacred to share.”
Meghan and Harry have also been accused of filming at Diana’s grave for a rumored documentary linked to the 30th anniversary of her tragic death.
Sources alleged to RadarOnline that “recording equipment” was seen at her final resting place, adding, “There was a clear awareness that elements of the visit could be captured for a future project like a Netflix documentary from Harry, or social media posts, which has unsettled members of the family.”
“This was meant to be a moment of reflection, but there were worries it might be reframed for a wider audience,” a separate insider claimed.
Rumors of a documentary have angered William, especially since he “feels strongly that certain spaces should remain entirely private, especially given their personal significance.”
