How To Apply Cream Blush So It Looks Phenomenal

Knowing how to apply cream blush is perhaps the most important makeup technique to have down in 2026. Statement eyes claimed the 2010s and signature lip combos ruled the early 2020s, but look to the beauty looks breaking the internet right now, and more often than not, they centre around a truly phenomenal blush moment.

Case in point: Zendaya’s ethereal Goddess blusher on the press tour for her film, The Odyssey, has reinforced our infatuation with ultra flushed cheeks, meanwhile, Hailey Bieber has sold us on bright pops of colour patted gently into cheeks (and lips) for a makeup look that’s fresh, youthful and cheeky.

One thing these looks have in common, is they’re heavy on glow and, despite the blush making a statement, they blend seamlessly into skin without feeling blocky. So, if you prefer a glowy finish, cream blush is where it’s at.

Just as important as the product you choose, is the technique you use. We spoke to some of the world’s leading makeup artists, to find out how to apply cream blush like a professional.

What effect do different blush placements have?

We’re all familiar with the concept of contouring, so we know that different product placements can change the whole mood of our makeup. The same is true of our blush.

“Blush placement can change the whole vibe and feeling of a look,” confirms top celebrity makeup artist, Leah Darcy, who counts Hailey Bieber, Jasmine Tookes, Elsa Hosk, Laura Harrier and Sabrina Carpenter as clients. “Blush on the apples of the cheek creates a more youthful and lifted look, especially on round face shapes. Sweeping blush across the nose is my favourite summer technique for that sun-kissed look. Applying blush high on the cheekbone for a more modern snatched look is great, but doesn’t work on every face shape,” she explains.
