Crochet shorts will transform your summer looks – even the mini ones
Another summer, another opportunity to dig out our favourite crochet pieces. The fabric is a reliable staple every year – perfect for beating the heat, yes, but also for looking on trend with minimal effort. From dresses and trousers to bags and even shoes, crochet pieces tap into the carefree, joyful spirit of summer: breezy, boho and beach-ready. But this year, a new MVP of crochet fashion has emerged. In 2026, every fashion it girl is wearing crochet shorts.
But this isn’t only a trend to file under “things I wear on holiday and never again”. As us Brits find ways to stay cool in the never-ending heatwave, crochet shorts now have a longer shelf life. You can wear them in the city with a denim jacket and jelly shoes, or for a picnic in the park with a graphic tee. The trick to wearing them seven days a week lies in striking the balance between OOO energy and IRL obligations. Obviously, we don’t recommend you start wearing crochet mini shorts to the office. But for bottomless brunch? They’re the perfect choice.
How crochet shorts made a SS26 runway return
Like we said, crochet enters the fashion cycle basically every summer. But this season, it returned to the runway in a big way – and it’s exactly the designers’ take on crochet shorts that’s inspired us to start wearing them more. Take Ralph Lauren, for example, who made high-waisted, black shorts the centrepiece of an elegant day-to-night look, contrasting with an unbuttoned oversized blazer, a striped T-shirt and pendant necklaces.
