What Happened with Kate Middleton & Prince Andrew
Former Prince Andrew has had scandal after scandal, and it was only recently that he was stripped of his title and ordered to vacate his home at Royal Lodge. So, what changed? His close ties to Jeffrey Epstein were widely known for years, and the British royal family never took a firm stance with him. If anything, they’re guilty of letting him get away with too much for too long.
According to RadarOnline, what changed was Kate Middleton. The outlet pointed to her and Queen Camilla as the key figures in Andrew’s “downfall” and his ban from Sandringham. The disgraced ex-prince is currently under investigation for suspicion of misconduct in public office and sex crimes.

“Inside the palace, nobody pretends this was just Charles waking up one morning and acting alone,” a source told the outlet. “There was a long period of discussion, and throughout that time Kate and Camilla were consistently making the case that the monarchy could not carry Andrew as a working royal or as ‘Prince Andrew’ any longer. They were not shouting, but their voices carried a lot of weight.”
They continued, “People talk about a ‘female touch,’ and it was applied rather brutally in Andrew’s case as Kate and Camilla were the key figures behind and driving forces behind Andrew’s downfall.”
Their influence is reportedly large, with the source explaining, “Kate and Camilla are never going to eclipse William or Charles in public, but behind the scenes they have become incredibly powerful. But when it came to Andrew, their guidance was sought and listened to. Both women are acutely aware of how damaging it would be for William to inherit a monarchy still burdened by Andrew’s presence and titles.”
Reportedly, William was on the same page and “very clear he did not want to spend the next 20 years dealing with the headache of his uncle’s scandals. There was firm pressure from him for a clean break, and Kate backed that up privately.”
“Camilla, for her part, has lived through the era when royal reputations were shredded by scandal. She knows that half‑measures don’t work,” the insider added. “The message from both was essentially: if you’re going to do this, do it properly – remove the titles, remove the honors, remove the lodge.”
At the time, the decision was framed by royal insiders as a “family decision” made by Charles, but with the full support of all senior royals. Andrew still remains eighth in line to the throne, but there’s very little chance he will ever resume public duties. “The King was the driving force behind the formal removal of Andrew’s titles, but Kate and Camilla were absolutely vital when it came to him deciding how far he could go,” a source told the outlet. “They are seen by some as the real power behind the throne in this case – and the ones who helped Charles and William.”
