8 Autumn Nail Designs That Will Dominate Cosy Season

Alongside blocking out the calendar with evenings inside marinating in front of a Netflix series, one of the things we love heading into September are the autumn nail designs. We’re here for a milky mani or butter Frenchie as much as the next person, but we can also appreciate cosy tones, animal print and autumn-inspired nail art.

To make sure we’re heading on the right tracks, we spoke to the leading celebrity nail artists behind the most viral manicures to find out what’s set to headline autumn before it even takes off. Expect to see classics come back but with a modern twist. Patterns are getting snug and playful and chrome is set to get a glow-up.

As you’d expect from autumn, the headlining shades are rich and expensive. “This autumn is all about understated luxury,” summarises top celebrity nail artist, global OPI ambassador and the creative behind Hailey Bieber’s viral glazed donut mani, Zola Ganzorigt. “Soft almond and short, rounded nails continue to be my favourite because they complement every look. Plus, glossy finishes, micro-French tips and chrome effects can add dimension to rich seasonal shades,” she adds. And for the general theme? “Overall, autumn nails are going to feel much more considered. It’s less about complicated nail art and more about beautiful colour, immaculate shaping and interesting finishes,” notes Susan Carroll, founder at leading Notting Hill beauty destination Young LDN. “There’s a real return to nails that feel like part of your overall look, almost another accessory, rather than something that has to make a statement on its own,” she says.

What does this mean in practice? These are the autumn nail designs you need to know for 2026.

Cosy tones

Heading into a deeper, darker, richer shade palette for autumn may be predictable, but it’s just so darn sophisticated as well. The consensus coming from all the top nail artists is that rich, cosy shades will rule. We’ve rounded them up in detail in our autumn nail colour trend report, but topline? Brown and burgundy are where it’s at. “Rich ruby red will be the headlining shade for autumn,” notes leading celebrity nail artist, Michelle Humphrey, whose clients include Dua Lipa, Simone Ashley and Charli XCX. “Red never really disappears, but this season it feels deeper and more luxurious, moving away from summer’s bright tomato tones into ruby, wine and oxblood shades. It works beautifully worn glossy, translucent or even with a cat-eye finish, so there are lots of ways to make this classic colour feel current,” she adds. “Chocolate and espresso brown will remain strong too. Brown has become the softer alternative to black – it still feels rich and dramatic but it’s incredibly wearable and neutral,” Michelle adds.

Zola agrees. “Rich espresso and deep burgundy are going to be defining shades of autumn,” she confirms. “They feel timeless, elevated and incredibly versatile – the perfect neutral for the season. I’m loving colours that feel luxurious and effortless, especially with a high-gloss finish,” she explains.
