The supermodel has lived with melasma since childhood, when it first showed up as freckling that faded each winter and returned every summer. In 2020, she posted a series of bare-faced photos to Instagram, revealing the patches of discoloration on her nose and cheeks that she typically covers with makeup, in hopes of helping others feel more comfortable in their own skin.
“Menopause sealed the deal and melasma and I are now partners for life it seems,” she told NewBeauty, explaining that pregnancy and, later, menopause both triggered lasting flare-ups of the condition.
