Suri’s Response to Katie Holmes’ Boyfriend Amid Tom Cruise Drama

Although many assume protectiveness naturally flows from parent to child, that same instinct can just as easily work in reverse, with kids feeling a strong desire to look after their parents. Just ask Suri Noelle, the 20-year-old daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, who’s said to be “incredibly protective” of her mom.

In July 2026, sources spoke with Hollywood insider Rob Shuter about Holmes’ budding romance with artist Jason Bard Yarmosky and shared how Suri feels about the relationship. Luckily for Holmes, her daughter has given her stamp of approval.

“Suri liked him immediately,” an insider told Naughty But Nice. “She’s incredibly protective of her mom, but more than anything, she wants to see Katie happy. That meant the world to Katie.”

Friends of the Dawson’s Creek star revealed that she’s always followed a non-negotiable rule when it comes to dating: if Suri isn’t comfortable, the relationship comes to an end. “Let’s be honest—if Suri didn’t like him, he’d already be history,” another source said. “Katie trusts her daughter’s instincts completely. No relationship will ever come before Suri.”

Since her divorce from Cruise, Holmes has “fiercely protected” Suri, and insiders argued that that’s why she waited until she was sure about Yarmosky before introducing him to her daughter. “Katie never rushes anything involving Suri,” the insider explained. “She wanted to know this relationship had genuine potential before bringing Jason into her daughter’s life.”

Now that the meeting is behind them, Holmes reportedly feels she can finally “enjoy the romance without worrying about the most important opinion in her world.”

“Getting Suri’s seal of approval was the biggest milestone,” a separate source noted. “Katie can finally relax because the two people she loves most genuinely like each other.”

​Suri’s approval of her mom’s boyfriend came on the heels of Page Six reporting that the college student legally dropped “Cruise” from her name. Suri now goes by Suri Noelle, which pays tribute to her mom (Noelle is Holmes’ middle name).

Cruise has yet to issue a public response, and it’s unlikely he will, as he hasn’t been part of Suri’s life in years. The last time they were seen together was at Disney World in July 2012.

A source close to the Top Gun actor told Naughty But Nice, “Tom’s reaction has been almost nonexistent,” adding, “He’s not angry, he’s not making phone calls, and he’s certainly isn’t trying to change her mind. As far as Tom is concerned, this chapter of his life ended years ago.”

Insiders claimed that Cruise came to terms with his and Suri’s estranged relationship a long time ago. “Tom compartmentalizes better than almost anyone,” another source explained. “His career has always been his priority. Once he believes something is beyond his control, he simply moves forward.”

Another source added, “This wasn’t a shock. The legal name change simply caught up with the life they’ve already been living.”
