Taylor Swift’s Godmother Role to Blake Lively’s Kids Has Faded

Taylor Swift’s Godmother Role to Blake Lively’s Kids Has Faded

Taylor Swift’s close friendship with Blake Lively and her family is reportedly over. According to a July 9 report from gossip columnist Rob Shuter, Swift and Lively’s falling out has also impacted the “Bad Blood” singer’s relationship with Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and their four children—James, Inez, Betty, and Olin—whom Swift’s godmother to.

“When Taylor’s friendship with Blake and Ryan ended, her role as an active godmother naturally faded too,” an insider told Naughty But Nice. “There wasn’t a falling out with the children. She simply isn’t part of their everyday lives anymore.”

Swift all but confirmed the friendship breakup at her July 3 wedding to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, where Lively, Reynolds, and their kids were notably absent. “That told the whole story,” another source explained. “Years ago they would have been front and center. Today, they’re no longer part of Taylor’s inner circle.”

Despite the alleged rift with Lively and Reynolds, Swift reportedly has no ill will toward the children. “Taylor still has love for those kids,” the source says. “But relationships with children often depend on relationships with their parents. When the friendship ended, the connection naturally faded. It’s sad, but that’s the reality.”

Swift’s distance from Lively and Reynolds’ kids comes after she also snubbed another godchild, Leo Thames—the son of actress Jaime King—from her guest list. When fans noticed Leo wasn’t at the high-profile event, speculation arose that Swift and King may have also had a falling out.

However, King’s publicist, Jane Owen, quickly dismissed the rumors and told Page Six, “Leo Thames is still too young for a large adult wedding celebration, but he and his mother were able to joyfully celebrate Taylor and Kelce’s marriage in his own very special, age-appropriate way during his summer break.”

“The reason Jaime chose Taylor as Leo Thames’s godmother is because they both believe that being a godmother is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances,” Owen added.

Swift and King became friends after meeting at a 2014 Golden Globes party. The following year, King welcomed Leo and chose Swift as his godmother. Despite this special bond, Swift and King are no longer in touch. “Taylor and Jaime are not close anymore and don’t talk but there is still love,” a source told The U.S. Sun in 2025.

However, Swift is still close with Leo, sending him gifts for his birthday and assuring him that she would “be there in a heartbeat” whenever he needed her.

“She has always taken her godmother role and duties very seriously and is the most caring and thoughtful person Jaime could’ve asked to be there for Leo,” the source said. “But their relationship is a lot different now than it was back when Jaime asked Taylor to be his godmother. There is no regular contact.”
