Taylor Swift Reportedly Feared Kanye West Would Crash Wedding

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce can finally enjoy life as a married couple. The newlyweds, who began dating in 2023, finally said “I do” on Friday, July 3, 2026. Their ceremony took place at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden and was attended by over 1,000 guests, including many of Swift’s A-list friends and Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs teammates.

By all accounts, the event went off without a hitch—but not without behind-the-scenes anxiety. According to gossip columnist Rob Shuter, Swift and her team were very worried that her longtime rival, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), might attempt to crash the wedding.

Sources told Shuter’s Naughty But Nice that Ye was “at the very top of every security briefing,” with a specific plan in place in case he tried to make an appearance at Swift and Kelce’s special day.

“It was a real concern,” one source said. “Security had a plan in place if Kanye showed up. His name came up repeatedly during planning meetings. They weren’t taking any chances.”

Another insider explained, “The fear was that he’d walk in. The fear was that he’d decide to make another headline at Taylor’s expense.”

Fortunately, Ye never showed up, and the security plan was never put into motion. “The goal was simple,” a separate source shared. “Make sure Taylor’s wedding was remembered for her marriage—not another Kanye moment.”

Swift’s caution surrounding her wedding stemmed from her notoriously messy history with Ye. Their public feud kicked off at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where Swift won Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me.”

In a now-infamous moment, Ye interrupted her speech, storming the stage and taking the microphone to declare Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” deserved the win instead.

Although there was a brief period where the “Bad Blood” singer and the controversial rapper appeared to have buried the hatchet, their feud flared up again in 2016. That year, Ye released the track “Famous,” in which he called Swift a “b—h” and claimed he made her famous.

Swift denounced the lyrics, but controversy deepened when Kim Kardashian—Ye’s wife at the time—released an edited phone call that seemingly revealed Swift had approved the lyrics. As a result, Swift faced widespread backlash. However, when the unedited audio leaked years later, it proved Swift had only agreed to the mention of her name and was unaware of the offensive lyrics.
