Sneakerinas Are The Biggest Summer Shoe Trend – Here’s How To Wear Them
If you’re like us and the Nike Air Rift trainers haven’t left your social feed, then you will probably agree – the sneakerina trend is the latest in a line of freaky shoe creations that are here to make their claim as the shoe of the season. The fervour for these eye-catching flats-meet-trainers has remained high for years now — with more and more brands joining in with their own takes on the piece. It combines the durability and support of comfy trainers with the sleek, chic design elements of ballet flats.

While the Frankensteined style has existed quietly within the trend cycle since 2021 (thanks to British label Simone Rocha), its popularity has exploded in the past year. In response, sportswear giants like Adidas, Puma, and Keds have released sneakerinas. Luxury brands and indie labels, from Miu Miu to Vivaia, are also finding their own ways in, as are high-street staples like & Other Stories and Zara. Some are slim and laced, almost one-to-one swaps for ballet flats, and are versatile enough to wear with everything from summer dresses to linen trousers. For those who prefer a sportier look, there are trainers with thicker soles and secure straps — like your favourite running shoes, but a tad chicer. Finally, there’s a line-up of new-school takes on the Mary Jane trainers, replacing laces with adjustable straps.
