Is Savannah Leaving Today Amid Nancy Case?

Nancy Guthrie has been missing for nearly five months, and there have been little to no answers about her disappearance.

Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was taken from her Arizona home in the early hours of Feb. 1, 2026, and has not been seen since. Police have yet to identify a suspect or motive in the case.

Her alleged kidnapping has deeply affected her family, especially Savannah, who’s reportedly planning to leave Today once again. Insiders recently told the U.S. Sun that NBC and Today producers are preparing for Savannah to take a leave of absence to be with family during this tragic time.

“Everyone at NBC is terrified for Savannah. She’s holding it together now, but every new development feels like another punch to the heart,” a source told the outlet. “No one should have to deliver the morning news while living through a nightmare like this.”

The source added that the “emotional toll is becoming impossible to ignore,” saying that executives understand Savannah may need time away from work to cope with the ongoing investigation.

“Executives are quietly preparing for every possibility,” the insider explained. “They hope Savannah keeps working, but they also know she may need to step away without a moment’s notice.”

If Savannah does leave Today, Hoda Kotb is prepared to take over as co-anchor alongside Craig Melvin. “If Savannah needs her, she’ll be in that chair immediately,” the source noted. “There wasn’t a second of hesitation.”

“This isn’t about replacing Savannah. It’s about giving her the space to focus on finding her mother,” they continued. “Savannah is determined not to let viewers down, but behind the scenes everyone can see how emotionally drained she is. She’s running on pure courage.”

Savannah had previously taken two months off from Today to be with her family amid their mother’s abduction. When she returned to the anchor desk on Monday, April 6, Guthrie said it was “good to be back home.”
